Turquoise decorated Tutankhamun's funeral mask. In Persia it protected against the evil eye, and it was fixed to horses' bridles in Turkey. For many Native American peoples, including the Navajo and Zuni, it is a sacred stone.

Where it comes from
Turquoise comes from Iran, the American Southwest, China and Egypt. Most turquoise on the market is stabilised with resin. Much is imitation — dyed howlite or plastic.
