About Marigold
Pot marigold (calendula) is a bright, solar flower of protection, dreams and seeing the truth. Garlands of marigolds were hung over doors, and carrying the petals was said to help in court and legal matters.

History & folklore
Calendula gets its name from calends, the first day of the Roman month, because it seemed to bloom every month. It was called 'Mary's gold' in medieval Europe and used in wedding garlands. Folklore said simply looking at marigolds strengthened the eyes and drove away evil thoughts.

Growing & gathering
Calendula is a cheerful, easy annual that self-seeds in sunny spots. Pick the orange flower heads often to keep it blooming, and dry them on a tray. Buy dried calendula from herb shops if you don't grow it.
Calendula petals are edible. French and African marigolds (Tagetes) are a different plant and should not be eaten. Avoid if you have a daisy-family allergy.
