About Mint

History & folklore
Mint is named for Minthe, a nymph whom a jealous Persephone turned into a plant. The Pharisees paid tithes in mint, and Romans wore mint crowns at feasts. It was scattered on floors to freshen homes, and a leaf in the wallet is a very old money charm.

Mint grows almost anywhere with water and will take over a garden — grow it in a pot. Pick sprigs any time and dry in bundles or use fresh. Any variety works: spearmint, peppermint, apple mint.
Safe as a food. Peppermint oil should not be used on or near babies and young children, and is toxic to cats.
