Rhodochrosite formed in ancient Inca silver mines in Argentina and is known as the 'Inca rose'. The Inca believed it was the blood of their ancestors turned to stone.

Rhodochrosite comes from Argentina, Peru and Colorado. Banded pink and white pieces are the most common. Very clear, deep red crystals are rare and expensive.
