Aventurine's name comes from the Italian a ventura, 'by chance', after a type of glittering glass discovered by accident. It's long been used as a gambler's and lucky stone. In Tibet, it was used to improve eyesight.

Where it comes from
Green aventurine comes mainly from India and Brazil. It gets its sparkle from tiny flakes of the mineral fuchsite. 'Goldstone' is a man-made glass with a similar sparkle.
