Assyrians and Romans carved rose quartz into seals and beads as early as 7,000 BCE. In Greek legend, Aphrodite cut herself on a briar while rushing to save Adonis, and her blood mixed with his to stain quartz pink. It has become the defining love stone of modern crystal practice.

Where it comes from
Most rose quartz comes from Brazil, Madagascar and South Dakota. It's usually cloudy rather than clear. Very bright pink, transparent 'rose quartz' is often glass.
