A New Moon Intention-Setting

A short ritual for writing down what you want to grow over the coming cycle, done in darkness by candlelight.

Best time
The night of a new moon, or the day or two just after, while it's still a bare sliver.

What you'll need

A white or black candle, paper and a pen, a small piece of moonstone or clear quartz if you have one (not required).

Read about the ingredients:

Words to speak

“The sky is dark and so is the page. I'm not asking for the whole moon tonight — just a beginning. Let this take root, and let me do the work it needs.”

Say them as written, or put them in your own words — sincerity matters more than exact phrasing.

How to do it

Light the candle, then write down one to three intentions for the coming month — specific enough that you'll actually know if they happened. Fold the paper once and keep it somewhere you'll see it (under a candle holder, in a drawer you open often). Let the candle burn a while as you sit with the list, then extinguish it safely.

Safety
  • Never leave a candle or flame unattended. Burn paper only in a fireproof dish, away from curtains, pets and children.
  • Spells support real-world action; they don't replace medical, legal, financial or safety help.
