How to do it
Name a manageable behavior precisely — checking your phone during a writing session — and write the situation that usually triggers it and the replacement action you'll take. Fold the paper inward three times, wrap the cord loosely around the folded paper (never around your body), and tie one knot for noticing, one for pausing, one for choosing the replacement. Speak the words, put the wrapped paper in the envelope, and write a review date seven days away. Practice the replacement once immediately.
Afterward
On the review date, open the envelope and untie the cord, recording what helped and what needs changing. A lapse is information, not a magical punishment — seek appropriate support for habits that threaten your health or safety.
- Never leave a candle or flame unattended. Burn paper only in a fireproof dish, away from curtains, pets and children.
- Never tie cord around a person, animal or yourself in a way that restricts movement or breathing. Knot magic is symbolic.
